When it comes to bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, men and women have a number of delivery method options. There are creams, patches, pills and injections, but none of these has ever offered the comprehensive benefits of the pellet. If you are considering bioidentical hormone therapy, it is time to understand why pellet therapy is the preferred choice for both men and women.
The most effective way to receive bioidentical hormone therapy (BHRT) is through pellet therapy. This approach involves implantation of hormone pellets into fatty tissue under the skin via a minimally invasive, in-office procedure. Hormone pellets are about the size of a tic-tac and are made of bio-identical hormones (testosterone) and a natural binder. They are usually implanted just under the belt line, in the upper buttocks, just behind the hip. The pellets are designed with a specific density and hardness, so they dissolve slowly over a 3 to 4 month time period. As the pellets dissolve, the hormones are steadily absorbed into your system in way that most closely mimics your own body’s release of hormones. Other BHRT approaches, such as hormone creams or pills, cannot match the effectiveness of pellet therapy for treatment of menopause symptoms, low libido, fatigue, and many of the other symptoms caused by hormone imbalance. Although there are many intricacies of managing hormone therapy, pellet therapy is the cornerstone of my BHRT practice. Also, I only use testosterone pellets when administering pellet therapy. This may seem peculiar, and you may ask, “Isn’t testosterone the male hormone?” Testosterone is often thought of as the dominant male hormone, but it is an extremely important hormone for women. Not only do women need testosterone for many important functions, it also gets converted to estrogen, which is an essential hormone for women. This conversion takes place at the cellular level, where estrogen is needed to perform its important functions. By utilizing the body’s natural ability to produce estrogen from testosterone, testosterone pellet therapy is a very efficient and elegant way to receive hormones. The effectiveness of BHRT is maximized and potential for side effects are minimized.
It is well known that as men age, their testosterone levels decline. When this happens, men commonly experience fatigue, low libido, decreased muscle strength and endurance, and an overall decline in well-being. Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) can help treat these issues, and the most effective approach for TRT is testosterone pellet therapy. Pellet therapy involves implantation of bioidentical testosterone pellets into fatty tissue under the skin via a minimally invasive, in-office procedure. Testosterone pellets are about the size of a grain of rice and are made of bioidentical testosterone and a natural binder. Anywhere from 10 to 18 pellets are implanted just under the belt line, in the upper buttocks, just behind the hip. They are designed with a specific density and hardness, so they dissolve slowly over a 3 to 5 month time period. As the pellets dissolve, testosterone is steadily absorbed into your system in way that most closely mimics your own body’s release of hormones. I have found testosterone pellet therapy to be far superior to other forms of therapy, such as topical gels or injections. Many of my patients who had a poor response to other forms of testosterone replacement therapy did very well when they changed to testosterone pellets. Often, testosterone creams or gels do not get effectively absorbed, and men don’t experience the effect they desire. Creams and Gels carry a risk of testosterone transfer to family and friends. Testosterone injections can help with the absorption problem, but injecting testosterone 1 to 2 times per week usually provides an inconsistent response. Men feel a significant “boost” immediately following an injection, but the response often declines prior to the next injection. Also, the practice of injecting testosterone is inconvenient and difficult for those who travel often, and the injectable forms of testosterone are in an oil base, which can cause skin irritation. Testosterone pellet therapy, in conjunction with a comprehensive health maintenance program, is the most effective way to help revitalize your health and recapture a more youthful you.
