Do you know how long your telomeres are? If you’re like most people, you may not even know what a telomere is. Telomeres are caps on the ends of your chromosomes that scientists believe predict health and longevity. Longer telomeres have been linked to people living healthier, longer lives and tend to be found on the chromosomes of people who are more active. Shorter telomeres are generally found in individuals who are sedentary and at a higher risk of developing chronic disease. The good news is that even if you have shorter telomeres, you can begin to lengthen them. The secret? Steady and routine exercise. People who jog regularly for at least 30-40 minutes each day tend to live longer and have healthier lives than those who don’t exercise, or don’t exercise as rigorously.
